Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts

Louisiana Tech University seeks to fill the position of Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts, beginning Sept. 1, 2017. The Associate Dean serves as Director of Research and Director of Graduate Studies for the College and sits on both the University's Research Council and Graduate Council. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of the College and works with all unit heads in the College.
Duties include: assisting faculty in pursuing research and grant funding; acting as main coordinator for the various graduate programs in College; representing the College in such areas as curriculum development, suspension and appeal procedures, retention efforts, recruitment efforts, student orientation, review of accreditation reports, and compliance with state and federal policies. The associate dean reviews departmental expenditures, represents the College at campus and community events, and serves on standing and ad hoc committees where the presence of the Associate Dean is requested or required. The position is a 12-month administrative appointment; expectations include teaching 3 classes per academic year.
Applicants for the position must have a terminal degree in one of the academic disciplines in the College and an academic record sufficient for appointment at the associate or full professor level. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, administrative experience at the level of director, department chair or above, the ability to work collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators both within the College and throughout the University, familiarity with administration of graduate programs, and a demonstrated knowledge and interest in a wide range of disciplines across the liberal arts.
