LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY
The Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) is seeking applications for the position of Associate Director of Operations. The IfM is the largest research center on the campus of Louisiana Tech University, and is primarily focused on experimental and computational research in the fields of nanocomposites and microsystems technologies. By centralizing access to a powerful suite of micro/nano fabrication and metrology equipment, the Institute supports the research activities of professors and students from every engineering and science discipline on campus. The IfM additionally serves multiple other academic and commercial entities within the region. The Institute maintains 40,000 sq ft of office, meeting room, and laboratory space. This includes 20,000 sq ft of research laboratory space subdivided into individual PI labs and shared general-use labs. In addition, the IfM operates a 5,000 sq ft cleanroom with bays down to Class 100, a dedicated machine shop, and a specialized metrology/analytical laboratory. The IfM is located adjacent to the Biomedical Engineering Complex on the LaTech campus. IfM leadership and researchers maintain a vibrant partnership with the university's Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science (CBERS), which provides core instrumentation facilities and laboratory space for any biological components of IfM research. The IfM also maintains a strong collaboration with the Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at LaTech on projects related to the nano- aspects of next-generation structural materials.
As a key member of the IfM technical staff, the Associate Director of Operations is expected to:
- create and manage a program to maintain and modernize the equipment and infrastructure that enable the core micro/nano fabrication and metrology capabilities of the IfM;
- oversee and participate in the process/equipment/safety training of student users;
- advise, consult, and assist IfM faculty on their research projects, as practical and appropriate;
- be the principal liaison for external academic and industrial services and partnerships; and
